The Environmental Protection Department today announced that it recorded 59 convictions for pollution offences in December last year.

Among the convictions, 21 were under the Public Cleansing & Prevention of Nuisances Regulation, 15 were related to waste disposal, 14 were for air pollution and nine for noise pollution.

The heaviest fine for the month was $15,000 imposed on each offence committed by two companies for failing twice to take measures to control air pollutant emissions and using powered mechanical equipment otherwise than in accordance with construction noise permit conditions respectively.
