January 27, 2023

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 2,290 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 455 were identified through nucleic acid tests and 1,835 via rapid antigen tests.

Separately, 45 imported cases were detected.

Furthermore, nine residential care homes for the elderly and two for disabled people logged 13 cases involving their residents and one staff infection.

There were also seven positive cases concerning three students and four staff filed by five schools.

The Hospital Authority reported that 22 patients passed away in public hospitals. According to a preliminary analysis, the cause of death of seven patients was related to COVID-19, while that of the remaining 15 patients was unrelated.

It also registered nine more critical patients, bringing the number of patients in critical condition to 107.

As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas of Sha Tin district, the Housing Department and respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
