Toddlers’ testing requirement clarified

January 10, 2023

Young children under the age of three who are travelling from Hong Kong to the Mainland are required to possess proof of a negative COVID-19 nucleic acid test result, the Government clarified today.

Under the State Council’s Joint Prevention & Control Mechanism, all people entering the Mainland from Hong Kong must possess a negative nucleic acid test result issued within 48 hours prior to the journey. No exemption is given to any group of individuals, including those under the age of three, the Government noted.

The Government also announced that from today, people can bring children under the age of three to the city’s community testing centres and community testing stations where professionals collect throat swab specimens from children for self-paid nucleic acid tests.

Meanwhile, for inbound travellers from the Mainland and other places, who are below the age of three, the Government has already exempted them from the testing requirement. They can still come to Hong Kong without getting a nucleic acid test beforehand.
