Renowned composer mourned
Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung today expressed sadness over the passing of renowned composer Joseph Koo and extended his deepest condolences to Mr Koo’s family.
A leading music composer, producer and conductor, who made great contributions to Hong Kong pop culture, Mr Koo had produced numerous highly acclaimed movie and TV theme songs, including Beneath the Lion Rock, Shanghai Bund and the theme songs of TV series The Legend of the Condor Heroes, which have become all-time classics.
Along with his outstanding musical creations and achievements, Mr Koo received the Life Achievement Award of the Arts Development Awards 2010 by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 1998 and the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2015.
Mr Yeung said: “Joseph Koo's works are evergreen pieces that have been a significant part of Hong Kong people's lives over the years and enrich the lives of Chinese people around the world.
“His spirit and the memorable touching melodies he created will be passed down from one generation to the next. We shall fondly remember him.”
