Smoking ban to be extended

December 30, 2022

The smoking ban will be extended to cover five additional public transport facilities tomorrow, bringing the number of public transport facilities that are designated as no smoking areas to 260.

They are Central (Man Kat Street) Bus Terminus, Tung Chung Tat Tung Road Bus Terminus, On Tai Estate Bus Terminus in Kwun Tong, Cheung Wah Bus Terminus in Fanling and Kam Sheung Road Station Temporary Public Transport Interchange in Yuen Long.

The new ban will come into effect following the commencement of the Smoking (Public Health) (Designation of No Smoking Areas) (Amendment) Notice 2022.

No-smoking signs and layout plans will be put up at the new no-smoking areas. Demarcation lines will also indicate clearly the boundaries of such areas.

Anyone who smokes in the designated no-smoking areas or on public transport will face a fixed penalty of $1,500. Tobacco & Alcohol Control Inspectors will prosecute smoking offenders without prior warning.
