Mong Kok site to be resumed

December 9, 2022

The Lands Department today announced the resumption of land at Shantung Street/Thistle Street in Mong Kok for the implementation of an urban renewal project.

The project was included in the Urban Renewal Authority’s Business Plan for 2020-21 to help improve the area’s overall living environment.

The project site, with an area of about 2,796 sq m, will see 177 private property interests resumed under the Lands Resumption Ordinance.

It will be redeveloped for residential use with retail/commercial facilities, as well as underground ancillary parking and loading/unloading facilities. A sunken plaza, a public open space, and government, institution or community facilities will also be provided.

The affected interests will revert to the Government three months from the date on which the resumption notices are affixed on-site.

Eligible domestic property owners will, apart from statutory compensation, be offered an ex-gratia home purchase allowance or a supplementary allowance.

Eligible domestic tenants will be offered rehousing or an ex-gratia allowance.

Eligible commercial property occupiers, including owners and tenants, may opt for an ex-gratia allowance in lieu of the right to claim statutory compensation for business and related losses.

Details of the private land affected were gazetted today.
