Govt receives train incident report

December 8, 2022

The Government today received the preliminary report submitted by the MTR Corporation to the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) on the December 5 MTR Tseung Kwan O Line train incident.

The preliminary report indicated that the MTR incident was suspected to have been caused by a loosened component part of a train coupler, while a detailed report is to be submitted within two months of the incident or no later than February 4 next year.

The Transport & Logistics Bureau said the preliminary report gave an account of the incident, initial findings on its cause, and the MTRC’s immediate incident handling and follow-up work. The Government is examining the report.

Apart from conducting a detailed investigation into the incident, the rail firm will formulate improvement measures and an implementation plan. Relevant government departments will take part in the process.

The EMSD said it immediately started an on-site investigation after the incident and will continue to follow up on the probe.
