The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government strongly deplored and opposed the incorrect music that was played as the national anthem for a Hong Kong representative at the medal presentation ceremony of the Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship 2022 in Dubai yesterday.

According to the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC)’s initial report, the Hong Kong athlete and team manager followed its guidelines and responded immediately at the medal presentation ceremony. The organiser suspended the ceremony correspondingly and made the correction.

The Hong Kong SAR Government gave recognition to the action taken by the Hong Kong representatives on the spot that upheld national dignity.

Noting that the SF&OC indicated an in-depth investigation will be conducted into the incident, the Hong Kong SAR Government said it has asked the committee to submit a report as soon as possible and will follow up on the issue in a serious manner.
