Cold weather reminder issued

November 29, 2022

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) and the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association (SCHSA) today reminded the public to pay attention to the anticipated temperature drop in the next few days and stay warm with suitable gear.

At a press conference this afternoon, HKO Assistant Director Chan Pak-wai said a cold front will move across the coast of Guangdong tonight and tomorrow morning. Under the influence of the subsequent intense northeast monsoon, temperatures will drop significantly in Hong Kong.

The temperature will fall to 15 degrees Celsius tomorrow night.

Rather cool mornings are expected in the latter part of this week. Temperatures are forecast to drop to around 13 degrees Celsius in urban areas and a few degrees lower in the New Territories on December 1 and 2.

With the upcoming temperature drop coupled with the relaxation of social distancing measures and seasonal influenza, SCHSA Chief Executive Officer Maura Wong reminded seniors to take the first three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and seasonal influenza jab as early as possible to enhance protection and avoid severe complications due to infection.
