1.7k rural poll nominations received
The Home Affairs Department received 1,737 nomination forms for the 2023 Rural Ordinary Election as the two-week nomination period ended at 5pm today.
There are 936 nominations for the Indigenous Inhabitant Representative Election, 713 nominations for the Resident Representative Election, and 88 nominations for the Kaifong Representative Election.
The full list of nominees will be uploaded onto the Rural Representative Election website for public inspection.
Returning Officers will publish a gazette notice on valid nominations on December 1 after vetting and verifying the nominees’ eligibility.
The Village Representative Election will be conducted on January 8, 2023, while the Kaifong Representative Election for Market Towns will be held on January 15, with 191,088 and 8,990 registered electors respectively.
The elections involve 709 villages with 1,484 village representative seats, including 695 resident representative seats and 789 indigenous inhabitant representative seats. There are also 39 and 17 kaifong representative seats for the market towns of Cheung Chau and Peng Chau.
