Flu jab campaign to start Oct 6

October 5, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) today said the 2022-23 Government Vaccination Programme and Vaccination Subsidy Scheme will provide seasonal influenza jabs to eligible citizens starting tomorrow.

Specific groups of Hong Kong residents may receive free influenza vaccination in phases through designated public clinics under the Government Vaccination Programme.

Starting October 24, people aged 65 or above can get vaccinated at the Department of Health’s designated elderly health centres and the Hospital Authority's general out-patient clinics.

Additionally, members of elderly health centres can receive vaccination at their respective centres from tomorrow.

Moreover, starting tomorrow, community vaccination centres in various districts will offer free seasonal influenza vaccination to Hong Kong residents aged 50 or above when they are there for COVID-19 vaccination.

For children aged between six and 36 months, their parents may choose to have them receive both the COVID-19 vaccination and the free seasonal influenza jab at designated maternal and child health centres when they make a reservation.

The same arrangement will also be available for those aged three years to under 12 years at student health service centres.

At the same time, the Vaccination Subsidy Scheme will be launched tomorrow. Hong Kong residents meeting relevant requirements can receive subsidised flu jabs at clinics of private doctors enrolled in this scheme.

Meanwhile, free or subsidised pneumococcal vaccination for eligible people will still be available under the Government Vaccination Programme and Vaccination Subsidy Scheme, the CHP noted.

Those aged 65 or above who do not have high-risk conditions can receive one dose of 23-valent polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccination. Elderly people with high-risk conditions who have not been administered a pneumococcal jab before can get one dose of a 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, followed by one dose of a 23-valent jab a year later.

The CHP stressed that the COVID-19 vaccine can be co-administered with, or separated from, the seasonal influenza vaccination. It explained that if people wish to space out the COVID-19 jab with the nasal spray live attenuated vaccine, an interval of 14 days will suffice.
