The Education Bureau today issued a circular memorandum to all secondary day schools, primary schools, special schools and kindergartens in Hong Kong to announce the arrangements for providing a student grant of $2,500 to day school students in the 2022-23 school year.

The Government provides the non-means tested student grant for secondary day school, primary school and kindergarten students every school year.

The grant provision was regularised from the 2020-21 school year to alleviate parents’ financial burden.

All students, as at the application date, studying in secondary day schools, primary schools, special schools and kindergartens offering a local or non-local curriculum in Hong Kong are eligible for the grant.

Eligible children attending a special child care centre subsidised by the Social Welfare Department, newly arrived children attending a full-time Initiation Programme funded by the bureau, and students taking the Vocational Training Council’s (VTC) full-time programmes for Secondary 3 school leavers are also entitled to the grant.

Students of evening schools or private studies, holders of student visas for entry into Hong Kong for studies and holders of the recognisance forms issued by the Immigration Department are ineligible.

Schools can collect application forms at the respective regional education offices from tomorrow, while special child care centres and the VTC can collect the forms at the bureau’s Special Duties Office.

Parents are advised to return the completed forms to the schools concerned as soon as possible. Schools must submit the forms to the bureau by November 4.

The bureau will normally disburse the grant gradually within about six weeks after receiving the applications.

Additionally, the bureau will implement a pilot scheme in government schools in the 2022-23 school year, enabling applicants to submit online applications for government school student grants via the e-submission platform.
