The assistance seeker arrives at the Hong Kong International Airport.

The Security Bureau announces that a Hong Kong resident who had sought assistance from the Immigration Department has safely returned to Hong Kong from Thailand.

The individual concerned came back to the city with the assistance of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Chinese Embassy in the Kingdom of Thailand, the bureau's dedicated task force and the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Bangkok.

The bureau said it attaches great importance to recent incidents in which Hong Kong people were suspected to have been lured to Southeast Asian countries and detained to engage in illegal work.

In addition to giving priority to the work involved in saving such individuals and rendering all possible aid to them, the bureau added that it co-ordinates the efforts of Government departments with the aim of helping assistance seekers return to Hong Kong safely.

The bureau appealed to Hong Kong residents or their family members concerned to contact the Immigration Department without delay.

They may use the WhatsApp hotline 5190 8909, call the department’s Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit at 1868, contact the 1868 hotline by network data call via the department mobile application or submit the Online Assistance Request Form.

Anyone who knows or has received information of victims in need of assistance should contact the Immigration Department as soon as possible.
