3.7k local virus cases detected

August 9, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 3,783 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 1,439 were directly identified through nucleic acid tests and 2,344 via verified rapid antigen tests.

Separately, 262 imported cases were reported and three more patients passed away.

The centre added that three residential care homes for the elderly and another three for disabled people identified infection cases.

There were also 401 virus cases reported by 280 schools. Eight schools were advised to suspend face-to-face lessons for specific classes for one week.

Due to a number of positive cases, 40 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice. It also covers three specified premises in Tsuen Wan and Tin Shui Wai where some sewage samples tested positive for the virus.

The Government will set up a mobile specimen collection station at Discovery Bay Community Hall tomorrow.

Additionally, as some stations were closed when Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 was in force today, the stations at Wah Fu (II) Estate in Pok Fu Lam, Ap Lei Chau Estate and Tin Wang Court in Wong Tai Sin will continue to provide services tomorrow while those at Bellagio in Sham Tseng and Lei Muk Shue Estate in Tsuen Wan will extend their services to this Thursday.

As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas in Sham Shui Po, Tsuen Wan and North District, the Housing Department and respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
