Cantonese operas to be staged

August 5, 2022

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s establishment, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department will present a number of Cantonese opera performances in September.

Under the theme “A Burst of Blooms at the Pear Garden”, over 40 veteran Cantonese opera stars and young artists will put on four performances next month to present traditional auspicious set pieces, a full-length comedy and several Cantonese opera excerpts, showcasing their talent as well as the spirit of passing on the Cantonese opera heritage to new generations.

The shows will be staged on September 5 and 6 at Ko Shan Theatre, on September 11 at Tuen Mun Town Hall and on September 20 at Tsuen Wan Town Hall.

Each performance will run about 3.5 hours, including a 15-minute intermission. Some of the repertoires will be performed in guanhua (the ancient official dialect of the Central Plains) with Chinese surtitles.

Tickets are now available at URBTIX or through telephone credit card bookings at 2111 5999.
