Volunteers help seniors get jab

July 9, 2022

Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung today led civil service volunteers to the outlying islands to assist the elderly and people with special needs to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Partnering with outreach medical staff, the Civil Service Bureau Volunteer Team and Administrative Service Association volunteers headed to Lantau Island, Peng Chau, Cheung Chau and Lamma Island in five small teams to offer the Home Vaccination Service. Mrs Yeung and Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service Clement Leung joined the teams in Tai O to help seniors get their jab.

The civil service chief expected more than 60 people to get vaccinated through the service today, noting that over 80% of them are aged 70 or above, while more than 10 recipients are over 90.

“Given the hot weather today, the medical staff and volunteers have paid extra attention to the storage of vaccine doses and the condition of supporting equipment. With a concerted effort, we are striving to serve the elderly wholeheartedly in the hope that they can receive vaccine protection as early as possible,” said Mrs Yeung.

Government departments are encouraged to join forces with local organisations and social welfare bodies in the course of planning volunteer services for building a caring society together, she added.
