Police condemn act of impersonation

July 8, 2022

Police today strongly condemned the act of impersonating police officers and expressed concern over news reports to that effect.

Police are concerned about media reports stating that Hong Kong “National Security Wing” has sent emails to overseas legal practitioners alleging that they have breached the National Security Law, the force explained.

On June 30, 2020, the force established a department to safeguard national security, officially known as Police's National Security Department.

Police appealed to the people concerned to provide further information or evidence to facilitate follow-up actions.

The force reiterated that, as a professional law enforcement department, Police would act in accordance with the relevant laws, established procedures and guidelines when executing duties.

Contravention of Hong Kong laws, including the National Security Law, will be investigated in accordance with the law, Police added.
