Local COVID-19 cases remain at 1.6k

July 4, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 1,645 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 276 were directly identified through nucleic acid tests and 1,369 via rapid antigen tests that were verified.

Separately, 196 imported cases were reported.

The centre added that three care homes for the elderly and another two for disabled people have identified new COVID-19 cases.

It also advised four schools to suspend face-to-face lessons for specfic classes for a week after the schools discovered students had contracted the virus.

The Government made restriction-testing declarations to cover Toi Fung House of Fung Tak Estate in Wong Tai Sin and Kwai Yat House of Kwai Hong Court in Kwai Chung, requiring people in the restricted areas to undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.

Due to a number of positive cases, 39 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice.

The notice also covers four buildings in Aberdeen, Tuen Mun and Tai Po where some sewage samples tested positive for the virus.

People subject to compulsory testing may receive free testing at community testing centres or mobile specimen collection stations.

As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas in Islands, Kwai Tsing and Tsuen Wan districts, the Housing Department and respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
