82 pollution convictions in May

The Environmental Protection Department today announced that it recorded 82 convictions for pollution offences in May.

 

Among the convictions, 44 were under the Public Cleansing & Prevention of Nuisances Regulation and 19 were under the Waste Disposal Ordinance.

 

There were also 13 for air pollution, five for noise pollution and one for water pollution.

 

The heaviest fine for the month was $80,000 given to a company for using powered mechanical equipment without adhering to construction noise permit conditions.
