Various Maryknoll Convent School artefacts will be displayed at the exhibition.

An exhibition featuring around 70 artefacts provided by the Maryknoll Convent School (MCS) Foundation will be held from tomorrow to September 14 at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre.

The Maryknoll Convent School (Primary Section), built in 1937 and declared a monument in 2008, consists of an educational block and a convent originally used as dormitory for the Maryknoll Sisters.

The convent was handed over to the MCS Foundation in 2019. A structural inspection uncovered in the hidden attic a range of valuable historical materials, revealing the unique history of the embroidery and sewing workshop set up by the Maryknoll Sisters in the convent.

The exhibition will provide visitors with an insight into the architectural style and heritage conservation of the school as well as the history of the Maryknoll Sisters.

Highlight exhibits include a bronze school bell used to remind students of the beginning of class, purchase orders, paper embroidery patterns and a vestment on loan from Mother House in Ossining of the US.
