Power cable accident a concern

June 22, 2022

The Government is very concerned about a power cable accident on the evening of June 21 involving a power cable bridge operated by CLP Power Hong Kong.

The Government's Emergency Monitoring & Support Centre has been activated. Various government bureaus and departments have responded proactively and tried their best to maintain law and order, medical and other emergency services, and assist residents in need.

The Government said it understands that the power outage incident in this very hot weather has greatly affected the public, and it is deeply sorry for this.

It appealed to affected residents to be patient, adding that CLP Power is making every effort to repair the damage, with a view to restoring the power supply as soon as possible.

The Government stressed that this accident was an isolated incident, which affected the power supply system in individual districts, and the overall power grid and power supply situation in Hong Kong remains normal.

The Government will request CLP Power to investigate the incident in detail, find out the course and causes of the accident, and submit a report, with a view to preventing similar incidents from happening again.

Moreover, 14 schools in Tin Shui Wai temporarily suspended classes today due to the power outage. These schools will arrange for staff to look after students who might arrive.
