5G subsidy application extended

June 20, 2022

To encourage more public and private organisations to deploy 5G technology to foster innovation, the deadline for applications to the Subsidy Scheme for Encouraging Early Deployment of 5G will be extended to December 31.

Launched under the Anti-epidemic Fund with a funding of $100 million, the scheme aims to encourage early deployment of 5G in various industries, thereby enhancing efficiency, productivity, and quality of their services.

The scheme subsidises 50% of the costs for the deployment of 5G technology in a project, subject to a cap of $500,000.

Since its launch in May 2020, the Government has approved 141 applications, covering innovative applications in various aspects and sectors such as remote real-time healthcare system, construction site safety monitoring system, remote mechanical maintenance and 4K/8K live broadcast of musical performances or sports coaching.

The Government said with its edge in high speed, low latency, high capacity and massive connectivity, 5G provides enormous potential for developing business services and smart city applications.

Application forms are available online.
