Chief Executive Carrie Lam today officiated at the launch ceremony of a harbourfront event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
New pop-up summer precincts launched by the Development Bureau and the Harbourfront Commission at six harbourfront sites were also unveiled at the ceremony.
In her speech, Mrs Lam said Victoria Harbour is a symbol of Hong Kong, adding that she was very pleased to see the changes on both sides of the harbour over the past few years and citizens enjoying themselves freely along the harbourfront.
“I hope that the Development Bureau and all the friends who support the work of Victoria Harbour will increase the strength of the community, the business sector and the Government to open up both sides of Victoria Harbour as soon as possible, so that we can truly possess a continuous harbourfront promenade,” she noted.
Several local artists have been invited to participate in the campaign, transforming six harbourfront sites into summer precincts with their own unique characteristics. The sites are in Wan Chai, Tamar, Kennedy Town and the Tsuen Wan.
Harbourfront events also include Kids' Driving Tour along the Harbour, the harbourfront marathon by model bus, water activities as well as the play truck PlayMobile S3.
