The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) today said it is investigating 851 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 360 were directly identified through nucleic acid tests and 491 via rapid antigen tests which were verified.
Among the cases, 74 are imported and the rest are locally infected.
Outbreaks occurred in two bars, with Racks City on Wyndham Street in Central registering 18 infection cases and FLM on Jervois Street in Sheung Wan recording 13 cases.
There has been a gradual increase of confirmed cases but the CHP said the hospitalisation rates as well as serious and death cases are not serious so far.
The centre’s Communicable Disease Branch Head Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan said: “The number of positive cases has gradually increased during the past one or two weeks - from around 200 to 300 daily confirmed cases to around 600 to 800 at present.
“The other indicators, including the sewage surveillance and compulsory testing, etc - they have also slightly increased - this also includes the R (real-time effective reproductive number for local cases) as estimated by the University of Hong Kong.
“But fortunately, we have not observed any increase, so far, in the hospital admission figures, as well as the number of serious or death cases at present.”
Dr Chuang said the situation is being closely monitored in respect of its possible impact on the health system.
Meanwhile, the Government made a restriction-testing declaration to cover Lok Shan House of Cheung Shan Estate in Tsuen Wan. People in the restricted area are required to undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.
Due to a number of positive cases and sewage samples detected, 34 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice.
Mobile specimen collection stations will be set up at Chi Fu Fa Yuen in Pok Fu Lam, Beech Street in Tai Kok Tsui and Lei Muk Shue Estate in Tsuen Wan tomorrow.
As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in Tsui Ping (South) Estate in Kwun Tong, the Housing Department will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
