5 vaccination centres to close

May 4, 2022

The Government announced today that it will close five community vaccination centres (CVCs) and reduce the opening hours of children CVCs as part of its adjustments to the centres' operation arrangements starting from mid-May.

The CVC in Loke Yew Hall at the University of Hong Kong will provide service until May 22, while those in the Central Library, Kowloon Bay Sports Centre, Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre and Tsuen Wan Sports Centre will be closed on June 1.

The children CVCs will open daily from 10am to 6pm starting May 16.

From June 1, the children CVCs at Yuen Chau Kok Sports Centre in Sha Tin will be relocated to the CUHK Medical Centre, while the one at Tsuen Wan Sports Centre will be moved to Osman Ramju Sadick Memorial Sports Centre in Kwai Chung.

The CVCs at these two centres will also provide a proper BioNTech vaccine dosage to children aged 5 to 11, in addition to providing the BioNTech vaccine to people aged 12 or above.

Twenty-one CVCs will continue to provide COVID-19 vaccination service to the public in June. They will open from 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and from 8am and 8pm on weekends. They will be closed daily between 1.30pm and 2.30pm for cleaning.

The Government said 47% of those aged 12 or above have received their third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

On top of pointing out that the above adjustments were made after it noticed a decrease in the demand for vaccination in the last few weeks, it explained that the latest seven-day moving average of the daily number of doses administered stands at around 27,200 only.

The Home Vaccination Service will press ahead at full steam to provide free door-to-door Sinovac vaccination to unvaccinated seniors aged 70 or above, or people with impaired mobility due to illness or physical disability, the Government emphasised.
