794 COVID-19 cases identified

April 16, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 794 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 12 are imported and the rest are locally infected.

Among the new cases, 449 were detected by nucleic acid tests while 345 were identified via rapid antigen tests.

Since the onset of the fifth wave of the epidemic, 1,184,447 people have contracted the virus, involving 8,897 deaths.

This afternoon, the Government made restriction-testing declarations to cover Kwai Ming House of Kwai Hong Court in Kwai Chung and Ching Ping House of Ching Ho Estate in Sheung Shui due to the viral load in sewage, information of relevant positive cases and other circumstantial factors. People in the restricted areas must undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.

Given that there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas of Sai Kung and Tai Po, the Home Affairs Department will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleansing workers and property management staff working in such areas.

Furthermore, due to a number of positive cases, 40 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice.

The Government will set up an additional mobile specimen collection station at the basketball court next to Fu Fai House of Fu Shan Estate in Wong Tai Sin district tomorrow.

As KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight KL819 from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Cathay Pacific flight CX865 from Vancouver, Canada had four and three passengers on board who tested positive upon arrival, the Department of Health has prohibited the landing of their passenger aircraft in Hong Kong from Amsterdam and Vancouver respectively from tomorrow until next Saturday.
