The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced that National Security Education Day will be held tomorrow, marking the second time the event will be held after the National Security Law was enacted.

With the theme of Uphold National Security, Safeguard Our Home, the event aims to raise Hong Kong residents' awareness of national security, create a positive atmosphere of national security and enhance the capacity to fend off national security risks.

It also seeks to deepen public understanding of the Constitution, the Basic Law and the National Security Law as well as all the key elements of having a holistic view of national security, with the goal of fostering a stronger sense of national identity.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic situation, the event's publicity and promotion activities will be conducted mainly through online platforms.

They include a five-minute special programme and a national security education picture book for children on outer space security in Chinese, English and several ethnic minority languages.

The electronic form of the picture book will also be available online for perusal and downloading.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress designated April 15 each year as National Security Education Day.

Article 10 of the National Security Law stipulates that the Hong Kong SAR shall promote national security education to raise Hong Kong residents' awareness of national security and the obligation to abide by the law.
