Temporary jab centre to open

March 24, 2022

The Government announced today that it will set up a pop-up community vaccination centre on Caroline Hill Road in Causeway Bay on March 29 to offer the BioNTech vaccination service to people aged 12 or above, with online booking to start at 9am tomorrow.

Located at the junction of Caroline Hill Road and Leighton Road, the pop-up vaccination centre will open daily from 8am to 8pm and close between 1.30pm and 2.30pm for cleaning.

In addition to taking prior bookings, it will distribute same-day tickets to people aged 12 to 17 and those aged 60 or above. This centre will operate until the end of June.

Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip explained that the temporary jab centre was made possible with the provision of the venue free of charge by Hysan Development and the Chinachem Group as well as the full support of the Polytechnic University School of Nursing.

“It is worth noting that the university's School of Nursing will operate the vaccination centre in a non-profit-making mode and will arrange for its final year students to assist in the administration of the vaccine under the supervision of experienced registered nurses.”

Mr Nip said the Government endeavours by late April to boost the second-dose vaccination rate to 90% and raise the first-dose vaccination rate to the same percentage for children aged 3 to 11, teenagers and those aged 70 or above as well as residential care home residents.

“We will closely monitor the situation of vaccination and pay particular attention to assisting the old and the young to speed up their pace of vaccination," he added.

The MTR Tsing Yi Station community vaccination centre will also provide the BioNTech vaccination service from March 29. It will offer the Sinovac vaccination up to April 21 to a small number of people who have made Sinovac vaccination appointments.

During the three week transition period, the centre will be delineated into distinct zones for administering the two vaccines separately. Diversion arrangements will be made at the entrance and signage with instructions will be displayed inside the venue for identification.
