Over 10k COVID-19 cases detected

February 25, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is looking into 10,010 additional COVID-19 cases, of which four are imported and the rest are locally infected.

A total of 65,252 positive cases were recorded in the past 14 days, comprising 89 imported and 65,163 locally acquired cases.

The Hospital Authority reported that 47 more patients passed away.

Meanwhile, five private hospitals will receive non-COVID-19 patients referred by public hospitals who have to undergo elective surgery, with the first stage covering suitable coronary patients.

The private hospitals include Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, the CUHK Medical Centre, St Teresa's Hospital and Precious Blood Hospital.

It is expected that more than 200 patients will be referred to these hospitals for cardiovascular examination and intervention treatment.

The authority said it is exploring the coverage of those who need to undergo specific oncology surgery for the next stage.

Regarding the isolation arrangements for young confirmed patients being treated in public hospitals, the authority explained that such children will be admitted to paediatric isolation facilities if they have a medical need for hospitalisation.

If their parents or carers are also confirmed infected with COVID-19 and are capable of taking care of the children, the hospitals will try to facilitate and arrange for them to stay in the same ward if the situation allows. Otherwise, the child's family members are not advised to stay in the isolation facilities.

In case the accompanying arrangements are not feasible, video visits and phone calls will be arranged having regard to the circumstances.

The clinical team will also maintain close communication with parents or carers to update them on the child's clinical progress.

Separately, the Government made restriction-testing declarations to cover Sau Wah House and Sau Yee House of Sau Mau Ping Estate in Kwun Tong where sewage samples tested positive for the virus.

Another declaration was made for Block 5 of On Ning Garden in Tseung Kwan O as preliminary positive cases involving a mutant strain were detected in the building.

People in the restricted areas must undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.

As there were positive sewage test results in several areas of Sham Shui Po, Kwun Tong, Sai Kung, Kwai Tsing and Tuen Mun districts, the Home Affairs Department will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleansing workers and property management staff working in those areas from tomorrow.

In addition, the Government will, starting tomorrow, distribute rapid test kits based on the risk levels of districts instead of issuing compulsory testing notices. In respect of the updated testing service priorities, mobile specimen collection stations at 19 locations will cease operation from tomorrow.

The Government will set up an additional mobile specimen collection station at the Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse tomorrow.
