Vaccine pass initiative to commence

February 23, 2022

In view of the very dire epidemic situation in Hong Kong, the Government announced it will extend social distancing measures by cycles of 14 days and implement the vaccine pass initiative from February 24.

Under the vaccine pass arrangement, with the next cycle taking effect from February 24 to March 9, people who enter or are present at catering premises, shopping malls, department stores, markets, supermarkets and other scheduled premises regulated under Cap 599F of the Prevention & Control of Disease (Requirements & Directions) (Business & Premises) Regulation are required to have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

All closed premises will remain closed, whereas the maximum number of people per table in catering premises will be further reduced to two. Selling or supplying food or drink for consumption on the premises must cease from 6pm to 4.59am during this period.

From February 24, people must wear a mask in all public places including country parks, whether or not they are engaging in physical activities. Taking masks off for eating and drinking will not be allowed on public transport carriers including ferries or kaitos and in MTR paid areas.

Other existing measures, such as allowing no more than two people per group gathering in a public place, the prohibition of multi-household gatherings at private premises and the cessation of mass events, will continue to be implemented.

The Government intends to maintain the relevant measures until April 20.
