Official checks cold shelter operation

February 21, 2022

Acting Secretary for Home Affairs Jack Chan today inspected a temporary cold shelter in Yau Ma Tei and officiated at a presentation ceremony of personal protective equipment.

Mr Chan viewed the operation of the cold shelter in Henry G Leong Yaumatei Community Centre including item provision and meal coupon distribution. He also exchanged views with its staff and encouraged them to deliver their best to the public.

In view of the recent COVID-19 situation, rapid antigen test kits will be provided to users of temporary cold shelters for testing before they enter the venues. Measures are in place to maintain separation from people who test positive on the spot.

Mr Chan then officiated at the protective equipment presentation ceremony, during which over 100 sets of protective gowns, head covers, goggles, masks, protective face shields, gloves and shoe covers were handed to Hong Kong Community Anti-Coronavirus Link.

He thanked the organisation for its full support to anti-epidemic work by mobilising a large number of volunteers amid the severe situation and stressed the importance of keeping them protected.

“We will need to ensure that our volunteers are fully protected by taking all personal protective measures during their work in order to protect themselves and their families.”

“I believe that, with our concerted efforts, Hong Kong will weather the epidemic soon,” he added.
