107 COVID-19 cases detected

January 26, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 107 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 100 are locally infected and seven are imported. There are also about 130 preliminary positive cases.

Among the local cases, seven have unknown sources of infection, 58 are related to Kwai Chung Estate, bringing the total number of positive and preliminary positive cases in the estate to 334.

Among these 58 cases, 45 were detected in Yat Kwai House, involving six new units, eight were recorded in Ying Kwai House, involving two additional units.

Preliminary positive cases were identified at Ying Kwai House through tests conducted since January 22.

The Government noted that at least 70 confirmed cases or preliminary positive cases have been found since then, which is worrying.

In view of the significant risk of infection at Ying Kwai House, the Government considered it necessary to undertake determined action by extending the restriction-testing declaration operation to January 29 to prevent the virus from further spreading.

With regard to the cases which recently tested positive in Block 1, Tropicana Gardens in Wong Tai Sin, apart from the units E involved in relevant cases earlier, the centre also identified a case which tested positive at the building, who lives in unit F on a floor with cases detected before.

It is suspected that the virus might have transmitted through the yard area of adjacent units after initial investigation. Taking into account the opinions from experts, the centre will arrange for residents of units F on the 6th to 8th floors to undergo quarantine at a quarantine centre.

Separately, the Government tonight made restriction-testing declarations to cover La Rossa A (Block 7), Coastal Skyline Phase 3 in Tung Chung and Cheung Bor House, Choi Wan (I) Estate, requiring people in the restricted areas to undergo compulsory testing.

In view of the cases which tested positive and preliminarily positive, as well as the sewage samples collected in Kwai Chung, Chai Wan, Kwun Tong and Ma On Shan which also tested positive for the virus, 37 places are covered in a compulsory testing notice.

The Government will set up and reopen mobile specimen collection stations tomorrow to enable residents and those working in relevant areas to undergo testing.

As regards positive sewage testing results identified in Tsz Ching Estate, the Home Affairs Department together with the Housing Department will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to residents of Tsz Ching Estate and three nearby public housing estates, namely Tsz Lok Estate, Tsz Man Estate and Tsz Hong Estate for them to take the test on their own, in the hope of identifying infected persons early.

The Government also called on residents and those working in the area between Lam Kam Road Interchange and Tai Om Road, as well as area near Man Tung Road in Tung Chung, covering Caribbean Coast, Seaview Crescent and Le Bleu Deux to undergo testing on a voluntary basis.
