Free rides on polling day

December 10, 2021

On the day of the 2021 Legislative Council General Election on December 19, various public transport operators including the Mass Transit Railway Corporation, franchised bus operators and Hong Kong Tramways will provide free rides for the public.

Domestic MTR services including Light Rail and MTR Bus will offer free rides on election day, although this excludes the Airport Express.

KMB, New World First Bus, Citybus, Long Win Bus and New Lantao Bus will also provide free rides on that day, excluding A and NA routes to the airport, B routes to ports of entry, sightseeing bus H routes, overnight bus N routes, new long-haul services P routes, and several southern Lantau routes.

Free ride services will be applicable to all tram routes.

The Transport Department's Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre will closely monitor the traffic conditions throughout the city, co-ordinate with government departments and public transport operators to meet passenger demand on the polling day, and implement traffic management measures with Police.

Since the free ride day is on a Sunday, the public are reminded to pay attention to the latest traffic situation before going out. They are also advised to plan ahead their journeys and reserve sufficient commuting time.

The Government appreciates the public transport operators and their staff's special arrangements to provide free rides to the public on the polling day.
