Mailing error probed

December 3, 2021

The Registration & Electoral Office (REO) today confirmed that a contractor sent Introduction to Candidates of another constituency to New Territories North West constituency voters by mistake.

The documents should have been sent to voters in another geographical constituency (GC), the REO admitted.

After receiving a voter’s report on the issue, the REO immediately looked into the matter. It checked with the contractor to see whether it had followed the established procedure for the lettershopping and mailing of the Introduction to Candidates. At the same time, it tried to contact electors living in the same GC as the elector concerned to see if similar cases occurred.

Initial investigation revealed that human errors were made by a contractor during lettershopping, leading to the erroneous mailing of the Introduction to Candidates to tens of voters in the New Territories North West GC.

The REO is now making arrangements for re-mailing the correct documents to the affected voters.

It apologised for the inconvenience caused to the affected electors, and stressed it will further strengthen efforts to monitor contractors’ work to avoid recurrence.
