Poultry imports barred

November 11, 2021

The Centre for Food Safety today suspended the import of poultry meat, poultry products and eggs from Sieradzki District in Lodzkie Region of Poland and Stratford-on-Avon District, Warwickshire County in the UK.

The bans were imposed in response to notifications from the General Veterinary Inspectorate of Poland and the World Organisation for Animal Health about the outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza, the centre explained.

The centre has contacted the Polish and British authorities and will monitor information from the organisation and the relevant authorities on the outbreaks. Appropriate action will be taken based on the development of the situation.

In the first nine months of this year, about 4,070 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and 24.82 million poultry eggs were imported from Poland.

Additionally, about 70 tonnes of chilled poultry meat, 2,970 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and 250,000 poultry eggs were imported from the UK.
