5 imported COVID-19 cases detected

September 29, 2021

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating five additional imported COVID-19 cases involving patients who arrived from the Philippines, Jordan and Japan.

Regarding a suspected re-positive overseas case announced yesterday involving a 22-year-old man who tested positive for COVID-19 in India in April, the centre noted that the patient was asymptomatic and his antibody test result was positive after admission to hospital.

Epidemiological investigations and contact tracing are ongoing, it added.

The centre also reminded specified people linked to Tung Shun Hing Building in To Kwa Wan, Jones Hive in Causeway Bay and Block C, Hankow Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui to get tested tomorrow in accordance with the compulsory testing notice.

As six schools have reported upper respiratory tract infection and/or influenza-like illness outbreaks, a compulsory testing notice has been issued requiring people relating to those schools or their specified levels to undergo testing. Those who have completed a COVID-19 vaccination course will be exempted.

The Government will set up a mobile specimen collection station at the Zenith in Wan Chai tomorrow for people subject to compulsory testing for free.

Meanwhile, as Turkish Airlines flight TK083 from Istanbul on September 26 had one passenger on board confirmed infected with COVID-19 by arrival testing and two passengers failed to comply with the requirements specified under the Prevention & Control of Disease (Regulation of Cross-boundary Conveyances & Travellers) Regulation, the Department of Health has prohibited the landing of the airline's passenger flights from Istanbul from today to October 12.

A total of 61 cases were reported in Hong Kong in the past 14 days, all of which are imported.
