Minor employment claims limit rises

September 17, 2021

The jurisdictional limit of the Minor Employment Claims Adjudication Board has increased from not exceeding $8,000 per claimant to not exceeding $15,000 per claimant with effect from September 17.

The Labour Department said the amendment only applies to a claim for which the right of action arises wholly or partly on or after September 17.

The board’s jurisdiction is still confined to a claim not exceeding $8,000 per claimant if the right of action arose wholly before September 17.

The maximum number of claimants per claim will stay at 10, the department added.

Employment claims exceeding the board’s jurisdictional limit will be adjudicated by the Labour Tribunal.
