Secretary for Transport & Housing Frank Chan was deeply saddened by a fatal traffic accident in Tai Po this morning and extended his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured.

A taxi travelling along Kwong Fuk Road westbound knocked down numerous pedestrians when the vehicle approached near 102 of the road at about 11.21 am.

A 59-year-old man was certified dead at the scene while seven injured people were sent to hospitals for treatment.

The 63-year-old taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and he is being detained for enquiries.

Mr Chan said that relevant government departments have rendered assistance to the families concerned while Police will investigate the accident.
