Health centre contract awarded
The contract to operate the district health centre in Tuen Mun has been awarded through open tender to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong, the Food & Health Bureau announced today.
The operator is given a gearing-up period of up to 10 months in preparation for a three-year operation of the centre no later than the end of May, 2022. The contract sum is $329.91 million.
The centre in Rosedale Gardens Shopping Mall, 133 Castle Peak Road San Hui, covers an area of around 1,500 sq m. It will provide primary healthcare services including health promotion and health assessment, chronic disease management and community rehabilitation.
The operator will be required to set up satellite centres in various sub-districts of Tuen Mun within the first 12 months of operation. The core and satellite centres will be open 10 hours a day for six days a week.
In addition to a core team, the operator must develop a multidisciplinary network of medical and healthcare practitioners within or next to the service district to provide medical, healthcare and health assessment services to centre members upon referral.
The centre in Tuen Mun is also responsible for co-ordination with community partners which provide social welfare and healthcare services in the district and make referrals as necessary.
The Government is setting up district health centres in the 18 districts, with the first established in Kwai Tsing in September 2019 and the second in Sham Shui Po in June this year. The Tuen Mun centre is expected to start operation in May and the Wong Tai Sin one in June next year.
