Jab centres to extend operation

August 6, 2021

The operation of 26 community vaccination centres (CVCs) will be extended under the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme by one month to provide eligible people with the first dose of vaccination in September and the second dose in October, the Government announced today.

The extension decision came as the demand for COVID-19 vaccination has increased recently, the Government explained, noting that if the vaccination progress can be maintained or increased, 70% of the eligible population may at least have had their first dose of a vaccine by the end of September.

As from 9am tomorrow, the appointment quotas of the 26 CVCs will be gradually released starting on September 1 for the public to make their first-dose appointments. Adjustments to the booking period may also be made depending on the booking situation.

Meanwhile, the CVC at the Central Library in Causeway Bay will be relocated to Java Road Sports Centre on October 1. It will be renamed as the CVC at Java Road Sports Centre where it will continue to provide Sinovac vaccination service.

In view of the low overall utilisation rates of the CVCs at Queen Elizabeth Stadium and Hong Kong International Airport, they will be closed at the end of September after the provision of first-dose services in August and the second-dose vaccination in September.

For better utilisation of resources, the CVC at Ap Lei Chau Sports Centre will also run until end-September and be merged with the CVC at Gleneagles Hospital in the same district from October 1.
