Grace Lau adds to medal tally

Hong Kong karate athlete Grace Lau today took home the bronze medal in the Women's Kata event, bringing Hong Kong's medal haul to five in the Tokyo Games.

 

Chief Executive Carrie Lam today expressed her sincere congratulations to her.

 

“Grace Lau impressed us with well-executed moves in her own rhythm. Her marvellous performance was a showcase of talent with great strength, speed and beauty.

 

“After performing very well and winning various medals at international competitions in recent years, she continued to give an outstanding performance at the Tokyo Olympics today and won a bronze medal, which is well deserved.”

 

Secretary for Home Affairs Caspar Tsui also extended his congratulations to the bronze medallist.

 

“Grace Lau seized the opportunity and performed at her best to win the Olympic medal, creating history for Hong Kong. We share her joy and take pride in her.”

 

Ms Lau was the Women's Kata bronze medallist at the 18th Asian Games in 2018. She won a bronze medal in the Women's Kata event at the WKF Senior World Championships in the same year, becoming the competition's first Hong Kong medallist.

 

She also won the Female Individual Kata silver at the 16th AKF Senior Championships in 2019.
