2 imported COVID-19 cases found

July 30, 2021

The Centre for Health Protection said today it is investigating two additional COVID-19 cases involving men who arrived from Switzerland and the US.

Meanwhile, the centre is following up two newly notified overseas confirmed cases.

One of the cases involves a 45-year-old man who left Hong Kong on July 7 for Japan via Japan Airlines flight JL0026. He developed symptoms on July 19 and his specimen collected the following day tested positive for COVID-19, while those collected on July 2, 3, and 5 in Hong Kong and on July 7 in Japan tested negative.

The other case involves a 48-year-old man who left the city on July 21 for London on Cathay Pacific flight CX251. His specimen collected on July 23 tested positive for the virus and he remains asymptomatic.

The centre is liaising with the health authorities of Japan and the UK on the cases and epidemiological investigations are ongoing.

As a prudent measure, the premises where the two men had stayed and worked during the incubation period have been put under a compulsory testing notice. Those who had been at the specified premises for more than two hours during the specified period have to undergo compulsory testing.

Additionally, the centre reminded people linked to Leon Court in Wan Chai and CentrePoint in Sheung Wan to undergo compulsory testing tomorrow in accordance with the compulsory testing notice.

The Government will set up a mobile specimen collection station at The Graces.Providence Bay in Pak Shek Kok tomorrow to provide a free testing service for residents and workers subject to compulsory testing.

The service period of the mobile specimen collection stations at Lai Kok Community Hall in Cheung Sha Wan, Arthur Street Temporary Playground in Yau Ma Tei, MacPherson Playground in Mong Kok, Tin Shui Sports Centre in Tin Shui Wai and Tung Chung North Park will be extended. From August 2, the testing station at Tin Shui Sports Centre will be open only to those subject to compulsory testing.

A total of 27 cases were reported in Hong Kong in the past 14 days and all of them are imported.
