Jab services for elderly to expand

July 30, 2021

The Department of Health announced today COVID-19 vaccination services at its elderly health centres (EHCs) will be expanded by providing walk-in Sinovac vaccination for people aged 65 or above.

All 18 EHCs are now providing COVID-19 vaccination services for their members aged 65 or above on the consultation day.

Starting from August 2, these EHCs will further provide walk-in vaccination services for members without prior booking from Monday to Friday, from 11am to noon and from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, except public holidays.

Additionally, the three EHCs in Lam Tin, Kwai Shing and Tseung Kwan O will provide COVID-19 vaccination walk-in services to all senior citizens aged 65 or above from August 9 to September 30. No prior booking is required.

Such services will be available from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 12.15pm and from 2pm to 4.45pm, excluding public holidays.

Elderly people need to present their Hong Kong identity cards for registration on a first-come, first-served basis. When they receive the first dose of the vaccine at the EHC, the healthcare personnel will help arrange the date and time for their second dose.

Noting that seniors are the group with the highest risks of complications and death from COVID-19, the department urged them to get vaccinated as soon as possible for protection.

Elderly people who have received influenza jabs before can safely receive COVID-19 vaccines, while those who have chronic diseases can also receive vaccination when their condition is stable.
