The Government announced today that the Chief Executive has specified October 30 as the date from which the sixth-term Legislative Council will stand prorogued and its operation will then be terminated.

The LegCo General Election will be held on December 19 and the nomination period is scheduled for October 30 to November 12.

The Chief Executive has specified the commencement date of the nomination period as the prorogation date of the current LegCo to ensure that all candidates, including serving LegCo members, will compete on a level playing field.

The Government said the Chief Executive has taken into consideration the relevant electoral legislation and the practice adopted in the past public elections.

The prorogation date will be gazetted on July 23.
