Officials' pay adjustment set

June 15, 2021

The Government today said the Chief Executive, politically-appointed officials and non-official members of the Executive Council have decided their remuneration this year will not be adjusted upwards in accordance with the established mechanism.

According to the mechanism approved by the Legislative Council Finance Committee, their remuneration would be adjusted automatically on an annual basis in accordance with the relevant change in the Consumer Price Index (C) in the past year.

In response to media enquiries, the Government said even if the relevant change in the Consumer Price Index (C) in the past year is positive, the remuneration of the Chief Executive, politically-appointed officials and ExCo non-official members will not be adjusted upwards in accordance with the established mechanism.

On the contrary, if the relevant change in the index is negative, their remuneration will be adjusted downwards in accordance with the mechanism.

The annual adjustment cycle for the remuneration of the Chief Executive and politically-appointed officials will start from July 1, while that of ExCo non-official members is from October 1.
