Stanley Post Office closed
Hongkong Post today said Stanley Post Office has to be closed temporarily after a traffic accident last night damaged some parts of the Grade II historic building.
Responding to media enquiries, Hongkong Post said the closure is necessary as the relevant departments still need to carry out a detailed survey to arrange for repair works.
It has been following up on the incident since learning about it last night. This morning, Hongkong Post staff inspected the site again, together with officers from the Architectural Services Department and the Antiquities & Monuments Office.
A preliminary assessment found no risk of collapse to the overall structure of the post office.
However, the post office’s front entrance, part of its external wall facing the street and part of the wooden beams on its entrance roof were damaged.
The posting box outside the building was also damaged but the mail items inside were intact and delivery was arranged. A temporary posting box was set up on site.
Additionally, a mobile office will be deployed at the space next to the post office from tomorrow to provide postal services and distribute specimen bottles for COVID-19 testing.
