8 suspects returned to HK

March 22, 2021

Police today received eight male suspects from Mainland authorities at Shenzhen Bay Port.

Under the Reciprocal Notification Mechanism, Police on August 28 last year received a notification from Mainland law enforcement agencies regarding the detention of the eight suspects and four other people who were suspected of illegally crossing the boundary in Mainland waters.

Two of these 12 people were returned to Hong Kong last December.

The eight suspects who returned to the city today are between the ages of 19 and 31. Seven of them were on court bail and not allowed to leave Hong Kong, while the remaining suspect was on police bail pending further investigation and was requested to surrender his travel documents.

The 31-year-old suspect was arrested in Admiralty on September 29, 2019, and was charged with rioting and assaulting a police officer.

Of the two 30-year-old suspects, one of them was arrested in Sheung Shui on January 16 last year and was charged with making explosives, while the other suspect was arrested on August 10 last year for collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security and other offences.

Three of the suspects, aged between 21 and 24, were arrested in Wan Chai on December 8, 2019, and were charged with conspiracy to shoot with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The remaining two are aged 19. One of them was in suspected connection with a conspiracy to commit arson in Wan Chai on September 30, 2019. The other suspect was arrested in Yau Ma Tei on November 18, 2019, and was charged with rioting and possession of offensive weapons.

Police said the eight suspects were returned after the completion of legal proceedings by Mainland authorities.
