Beijing testing rules adjusted

March 9, 2021

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today urged the public to ensure they comply with Beijing's updated COVID-19 nucleic acid test requirement when travelling there.

Starting from midnight on March 15, all people travelling from Hong Kong to Beijing by direct flights must present valid proof of a negative COVID-19 nucleic acid test result issued within seven days by one of the local COVID-19 nucleic acid testing institutions recognised by the Hong Kong SAR Government.

The method of specimen collection specified in the proof must be nasopharyngeal swab or combined nasal and throat swab. For children under six years old, a throat swab should be the main method of specimen collection.

The Hong Kong SAR Government emphasised that airlines will check the proof concerned before boarding. Travellers will not be allowed to board the plane if the aforesaid specimen collection method was not adopted or not specified in the proof provided.

It added that after entering Beijing, travellers must strictly follow the prevention and control measures there.
