Govt reports initial virus case

March 5, 2021

The Labour Department today announced that a staff member working at the Labour Inspection Division has preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19.

The patient lives with another staff member of the department who had preliminarily tested positive for the virus earlier.

She works on 10/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, in an adjacent office on the same floor as the staff member who was infected earlier, and last performed duties on March 4.

The patient did not have contact with members of the public in her daily work.

She wore surgical masks, properly maintained social distancing and had a normal body temperature when screened at work.

Her workplace, including common areas, has been arranged for thorough cleaning and disinfection.

The Labour Inspection Division and the Minor Employment Claims Adjudication Board on the same floor will be closed for 14 days.

All staff working on the same floor have to get tested and work from home until their test results are available.

The service counters of the Minor Employment Claims Adjudication Board, the Labour Relations Division (Kowloon West Branch Office), the Employees' Compensation Division, the Occupational Medicine Unit (Kowloon), and the Operations Division (Kowloon Region) of the Occupational Safety Service on the same floor have suspended services until further notice.

People who have made prior service appointments with these offices will be informed of alternative arrangements individually.
