February warmer than usual

The weather in Hong Kong was much warmer and sunnier than usual in February.

 

The Hong Kong Observatory said the maximum temperature of 23.5 degrees, the mean temperature of 19.8 degrees and the mean minimum temperature of 17.5 degrees were higher than normal, making them the second, third and fourth highest on record for February.

 

The total sunshine duration in the month was 205.1 hours, more than twice the normal of 101.7 hours, making it the fourth highest on record.

 

The monthly rainfall was 62.1 mm, about 60% above normal.

 

With plenty of sunshine, the temperature soared to a maximum of 27.6 degrees on February 2, the highest of the month. Affected by a dry northeast monsoon, it was warm and dry during the day from February 4 to 7.

 

The weather was cloudy and cool on February 11 with the temperature falling to a minimum of 15.3 degrees, the lowest of the month.
